I just read an interesting article on adopting older animals.  It was in
the Wall Street Journal and was very interesting.  I think it really has
some good tips and ideas.  Here is a link to the story:

Regarding heat.  I live in the Dallas, TX area, and it gets very hot and
humid here.  My Scooter is really affected by the heat.  We have winter
routines and summer routines just because of the heat.  In the summer I
walk the dogs at 5:30 am before I go to work - it really is the coolest
part of the day.  Lots of people walk the dogs in the evenings, but I
feel the concrete is still just too hot.  In the winter I walk them
after work.  Right now we are in the in-between area, it is usually nice
enough that I can walk them either in the mornings or evenings.  I
notice that Scooter really perks up when it gets to about 65 and below.
If it is too warm, she does at least one or two flat bassets on our
walks.  Can't say as I blame her!
