[Dailydrool] humping

Humping is not dominance. It is sex. Neutered and spayed dogs can still
enjoy sex and many do. It is often not a full sexual act, but "if it feels
good do it" is certainly a main component of what is going on.

Some dogs don't like it and tell the other dog to "please stop". If they
don't stop, then there is a problem. It is like telling someone trying to have
sex with you to stop and how you feel if they don't. Dogs who have this
difficulty usually end up escalating aggression or hiding to get the other one
to stop unless a human intervenes.

I would give him a time out in a crate or another room for about 30 seconds
and then give him another opportunity to play nicely until you see the
behavior change to more appropriate play behaviors, which you may need to encourage,
like ball chasing, tug games, etc.

I have also seen a stuffed life size basset work well as a sexual surrogate.
Humping doesn't bother stuffed animals or blankets, but the dog wanting
that can then enjoy it safely without bothering others.

You may have to do both for awhile. Not a quick fix.
