[Dailydrool] Name Tags

This morning, as we were driving back from Dimple Dell gully where we walk every morning, we spotted
two loose dogs. One was an elderly basset who was sniffing bushes by the side, and one was a crazed
cocker spaniel, running around in the road. Since I had my three dogs in my car, with no room for more,
and a fear that while trying to get those two in, mine would jump out-- I beat it to my house and dumped
my guys inside and headed back. I was hoping that nothing happened to them in the few minutes I was gone. Nope, the basset still sniffing bushes and the cocker still in the road-- a truck had stopped for him.
I jump out with leashes and capture them and take them home. They both have on kerchiefs, Look under
the cocker's kerchief. No collar, no tags. My heart sinks.  The law in Utah is you cannot "harbor a stray". You must surrender any stray to animal control. I check under the basset's kerchief--TWO sets of tags with name, address and phone number. Hallajulah !  Call-- good number. They don't know he had escaped but say neighbor was out looking for cocker earlier. Husband comes to pick them up. The tag actually had the address, and I could have driven them home, but thought a little lesson was in order. My sister's dogs do not have collars or tags. "It makes it hard to pet them" (WHAT??)  I know the DD has advocated microchips, but please, please, please--name tags. Mine have Dog Name, Address, and my cell phone number. Sasha, with diabetes, has a second tag with Diabetic, Needs Insulin Shots and my cell phone number. It is tempting to put a tag on Bosley that says Extremely Annoying- Please Keep Him. We did the ones at Petco where you engrave them yourselves. Best $7.00 I ever spent. I work with Utah Friends of Basset Hounds, and they put a tag on each dog with their phone number. It is amazing that they get calls months and even years later when someone finds the dog and that tag is still on their collar, but the
current owner info is not.  Please get tags, do it today. 
(The basset was 10 and his name was Elvis)
