  Subject: [Dailydrool] Zelda update

I have kept quiet on the List about Zelda for a number of reasons, but I guess it's time to let people know what is happening.

Zelda's tumors have grown with amazing tenacity and intensity. What we can see is all on the outside of the right side of her skull, and it is not one but many large tumors, roundish, each about the size of a half or quarter of a tennis ball. She also has a very large tumor in front of the right shoulder, probably arising from the scapula, which is growing around to the front of her throat and is exerting pressure on her esophagus. This is the most recent tumor, and they grow unbelievably fast, almost while you watch.

We have kept our promise to Zelda to keep her free of pain, and she currently is wearing a Fentanyl patch. Nevertheless, her right eye is dry ( we are treating that.) and probably she cannot see out of it, and I do not think she can hear out of her right ear. She is sleeping a great deal, eating very very very little, less each day. She cannot open her mouth more than about a quarter of an inch and so her food is either pureed, mashed, or liquid. It is obvious that it is becoming difficult for her to swallow.

She goes out, she wags her tail, she solicits attention and gets it, all that we have. She is not wanting for belly rubs, long cuddling sessions away from the other dogs, walks in the front yard(wherever she wants to go at whatever pace and for however long) and tons and tons and tons of love and TLC.

Nevertheless the reality of the situation is that Zelda is already on borrowed time. I do not expect to have her more than a week at the most, at which time we will have Doc come to the house to help Zelda find some peace.

Zelda asks only that you save your healing Drool for those that need it most, those that might heal. She will not, and she knows this. She will be going on ahead without us, but she will always be in our hearts.

MomPerson to Zelda, right now the most important dog in the world.
