Oh, Steve,

I am heartbroken that you got such awful news about Wyatt's limp!!  Stay brave and do what you're doing for him.  He will indeed let you know when it's time to let him go, and you will still second-guess yourself all the way to the vet.  Just know that you can eventually give him the best gift of all - freedom from his pain and frustrations.
