[Dailydrool] Vet Bills

One more vet gripe. I have paid way too much at times and the meds really are too much. I spent $1000 one year while all the vet did was treat for a post surgical ear ache, (another place did the surgery) and repeat visits back for the ears and he failed to find the real problem which caused me to take my Basset for emergency spinal surgery. The surgeon and hospital stay was $4000, but at least that vet saved my dog. Before that I had tried a vet closer to home and took him in for a "wellness" check-up with full blood panel, urinalysis, dental and one extraction I knew nothing of. They said he had a broken tooth. Maybe he did. That was maybe 5-6 years ago; over $600. The first vet I took my baby to seemed to make it come out to what he needed for the month. His tech mumbled once that the meds were too much. So, I now take my boy when he is sick, which he hasn't been since I took him off some of the extra shots and the pesticides they were giving for worm "prevention". I do some natural treatments and had an holistic vet visit last year. He is 11.5 and being a partially disabled dog with spinal injury, I don't give his system any more vaccines to fight than his 3 yr rabies shot. He won't likely live for another one. I went from taking whatever the vets said to doubting some, to taking it into my own hands. My boy is fine to date. No more awful heaving and diarreah. I'm not sure how I would raise another pet in the future, but I would think for myself.
