We are back home and rested after a wonderful waddle weekend with ABC Basset Hound Rescue here in upstate NY. Of course, we only had to drive twenty minutes to get home being that we live in Syracuse. The waddle this year was in Chittenango, NY with the big Oz-Stravaganza festival celebrating 30 years of Wizard of Oz! The writer L. Frank Baum is from Chittenango,NY.

It started Friday night with a meet and greet pizza party and memorial to the hounds gone to the bridge and one very special volunteer who had passed on. We were excited to meet some of the people we knew by name only from our list face to face. Everyone was so nice and we had a lovely time.

Saturday, we got there a little later than planned and missed a few of the games and contests. We were a little worried because it was raining and they were calling for high winds and thunderstorms!!! We did not let it get us down and the rain stopped and the sun poked through. We put some tickets in for the raffle baskets and looked at all the silent auction items. And of course who can stay away from the tables of ABC's very own Slobber Shoppe with all things basset that you could ever want!?! At 1PM we moved down to the parade route a load at a time to a grassy area where hounds and slaves alike lounged in the grass under the mix of sun, storm clouds and humidity! We doecorated our floats as a team (and the pooped basset float was great with huge lollypops on it like in Munchkin land) and prepared to waddle. I'm not exactly sure how many hounds were actually there. I know we were supposed to have a couple hundred.

Cassie the Bassie was voted best costume for her "Tin Man" costume that we made. But she ended up being voted Princess for the Royal court so she couldn't wear her costume in the parade. We had Shelly Gordon's hound, Diesel wear the Tin Man costume and he even made it on News Channel 9 for like half a second...lol! Cassie took a ride in the Royal Court float with her princess bandana, tiara, and paw waving to the crowd! After we went back to the park where we won two gift baskets. One for being the 4th highest fundraiser for ABC at this years event and one for a raffle.

Cassie was pooped out in the end and slept until 10am today! But she did fantastic for her first waddle. And we loved it! If you all want to see pictures, we have put some up on ABC's myspace page. It is www.myspace.com/allbassetscherished and you can find the pictures by clicking on the link that says pictures that is right under the ABC logo picture. We are also going to put it in a slide show on the main page of it to make it easier.

Sorry this is so long! I am off to take a nap. I am still so tired from the weekend! :0)

PS- There was also a small article in today's (Sunday's) Post Standard newspaper here in Syracuse. It is in to local section. I am going to look online to see if i can find anymore and I will put them on here.

Michelle, Sharon and Cassie the Bassie
