Steve, I read your posts through tears..I am so very sorry about Wyatt. You both will be in my prayers to St. Francis, and Harley, Biggs and Leo send you their most heart-healing drool. I never have had to make the heart-wrenching decision to send a beloved pet to the Bridge. However, my dear friend's 13 yr. old black lab, Bess, and my God-dog, was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma last Chrismas. We had no idea, but one day Bess simply couldn't get up. For days she wouldn't eat at all. The meds relieved her pain for a while and she seemed so much brighter. I prayed for a miracle and, meanwhile, I took an entire roll of film of Bess and gave it to her mom. One evening at the end of January, my friend called and said it was time, she simply knew--Bess was lethargic, seemed in pain and refused to eat from a roast she'd prepared just for her. I didn't want my friend to be alone at the vet so I took the next day off and we went together to help Bess to the Bridge. It was, by far, the most painful thing I've ever done. We held and kissed her for a long time, and told her we loved her, and it was very peaceful. Later that day I heard a clock toll in a shop and I had to smile, for Bess had just got her wings! With the photos of Bess, I made a beautiful montage for my friend (my inspiration was Tawney's montage for her Oakley). Just love and spoil Wyatt to bits, and trust your heart.....
