I am so sorry Paul lost Hugo. It's quite possible that the cause was cancer in the spine area. According to information my vet gave me when Abner first went down this is another problem that can cause trouble walking. Intervertebral disc disease usually strikes bassets between the ages of two and six, according to what I read online somewhere.
