I had to use a shock collar for Cooper for the same reasons.  It was better than I had hoped for.  Cooper picked up really quickly that the collar would shock him if he kept barking.  I only use it when I am there to supervise him.  I would be petrified that something would malfunction if I left in on him while he was alone.

I got my at Petsmart.  Sorry, can't remember the brand but it was one where each time they bark the shock gets a little more intense.  

When I was talking to a trainer they suggested the ultrasound (is that the correct term?) collar, but since I have multiple dogs it wouldnt' have worked.
