Hi Rhonda! First, condolences on the loss of your precious penny. I'm
sure she's at the bridge running free and having her way with that big
buffet now...happy and young and all her pain gone. She's an angel now!
As far as how to teach your bassets to play, I would suggest you get on
the floor with the toys and play with them! I can't tell you the amount
of stress and tension I get rid of when I just surrender and forget
about everything going on and sit in the middle of the floor with my two
girls, Diva and Sophie, and play with them. They LOVE IT and it just
makes my whole evening much more relaxed. I think I'd say it really
gives me some perspective...as I lose myself in them, the things that
seemed so important a few minutes before suddenly become much less of a
big deal, and I can realize what's really important. After all, they
don't care about my work deadlines or what bills are late this month, or
who said what about who on some tv show...all they care about is that
they waited all day long to see me and to tell me how much they love me
and who am I to not let them do just that! Rough-house with them, my
girls eat it up when I grab their duck toy and try to wrestle it away
from them and then throw it so they can fetch it. They play with each
other, and then with me...then they roll over and pass out for an hour
or two. If nothing else at least you'll entertain them for a while and
get a good laugh out of the expressions they're sure to give you. Good
luck with your babies, and I hope one day you will remember all the
moments you spent with your Penny, and the pain of missing her will fade
away.
