Thank you to everyone who answered my questions about life expectancy and 
reputable breeders.  My DH and I are of 2 different minds, but I did manage 
to get a surprise out of him.   I had been asking/begging/cajoling for a 
second basset for a while and loosing Beau seems to have put a new 
perspective on a second dog.  Unbeknownst to my husband, I have been talking 
with CBHR about a dog.  Unbeknownst to me, my husband had been talking to 
breeders in the area (which we pulled off the BHCA site).   While I read the 
DD regularly and was not surprised by the grilling he received, he was. 
We've decided for the time being that $750 for a puppy is a little more than 
we want to spend and that maybe after the 3 2-leggers leave the house I'll 
be able to indulge in that whim.  However, and this is the eye opener, he 
finally admitted that we ought to get one than a few years later get a 
second, that way, we would always have at least one dog in the house.  Yeah! 
I'm also considering doing the "rent to own" thing called fostering 
again.....
Thanks again for answering all my questions!   This is a really wonderful 
group of people!
