[Dailydrool] Startled puppies

Our foster Harley is a dog whom you cannot startle in any way, shape or
form. Even making noise often isn't enough for him. You cannot hug or
surround him. You cannot approach him from behind or the side. He was the
submissive dog in what the owners called a "bonded pair" and now he's making
up for lost time in terms of having his own way and showing who's boss. He
snaps and/or growls on a nightly basis. He's constantly trying to show my
other 2 dogs (one very big basset and one big golden retriever) that he's
not going to be pushed around anymore. It's a shame that the old owners
allowed this to go on because now Harley can be extremely timid and
self-protective.

And he knows it's wrong - he just can't seem to help himself. He sucks up to
us right after he snaps, his head down and his ears low - you can
practically hear him say he's sorry.
