There are a number of foundations which help with catastrophic vet bills.  I pulled this list off of the site www.felinediabetes.com/vetbills.htm (this was the best site that came up when I googled "financial assistance for veterinary bills".

The list and contacts is as follows (I've left off the cat-only and senior citizen-only ones):
1. IMOM (www.imom.org)
2. American Animal Hospital Association (www.aahahelpingpets.org)
3. Angels4Animals (www.angels4animals.org)
4. Care Credit (www.carecredit.com)
5. Shakespeare Animal Fund (www.shakespeareanimalfund.com)
6. The Pet Fund (thepetfund.com)
7. United Animal Nations (www.uan.org)

The mission statements of each of these organizations is summarized on the feline diabetes site.  Almost all have the mission of saving rescuable injured or sick animals from euthanasia if the cost of veterinary care is the only thing standing between the animal and recovery.  Number 7 looks like it is specifically for cases like Susan's.

Good luck.  Val
