Bless all of you who have houndies that like to walk. Yesterday was lovely - sunny, upper 70s, breezy, so took everyone for walkies. Bud and Barney went together for the old man walk. Barney is so slow that blind Bud, a whole year younger at age 11, was blazing the trail and having to stop and wait for Barney. We were cooking along at a pace of about 1/4 mile an hour. Finally got them back in and settled for naps, and took the younger crowd - Zuma, Doheny, and Kahuna. They were going like gang busters for about 100 yards. Kahuna was ready to go between frequent sniff/pee stops, but the other two...Anyone at Boardwaddle this year remember Doheny when she crawled under the parked car and pulled a flat basset? Hmm, well, she maintained the same opinion of walks yesterday. She stomped along like we were on a death march. Zuma lagged behind at the far reaches of the flexi lead only moving when tugged. I was torn between hooking them all together in a mini chain gang, or putting orange t
riangles on their butts and carrying a banner that said "SLOW MOVING HOUNDS". I felt obligated to tell the neighbors, watching the dramatic prostrations, that we were out for a Sunday stroll of half a mile and I didn't have a whip hidden about my person to be used to flog defenseless Bassets. Doheny was having the vapors by the time we got home and fell into the nearest bed, feebley waving a paw in my direction. Zuma staggered out to the back yard to snore under a bush. Kahuna decided it was a great moment to have a chew bone all to himself.

You can bet I'm taking the wagon next time.
