[Dailydrool] Puppy Teething

Hi Debbie,
I just went through the teething stage with Sophie about a month ago.  It was rough and I never thought it would end.  I kept finding puppy teeth on the floor for a good week once she started losing them.

I make my dogs fleece tugs.  She seemed to like chewing on those because they are soft on her teeth and gums.  I also got out some old tube socks and tied them up in a knot and used as a tug.  Basically, I think anything that was soft that she was allowed to chew was able to suffice.

We had a heck of a time keeping her from chewing on our hands.  Sometimes I would rub her gums with my finger too.  I felt bad for her because it was obvious that her teeth were bothering her.  She was the first that seemed really sensitive to this stage.  Everytime she would go for the hands, I stuck either the tug or the sock in her mouth to show her that she could chew those and not my hands.

I am so relieved to be over that puppy stage.  She was hell on Schroeder too.  Poor boy, her puppy teeth left scabs all over him and when they would play I would keep a snood on him to prevent her from grabbing his ears and hurting them.  She got hold of those ears one time and made him bleed a little bit and that was enough for me.

Anyway, the normal adult teeth are completely grown in now, so hopefully it won't be too much longer for you.  I have an extra puppy size tug if you would like it (unused!).  Send me an email offline if you are interested.

Love and drool to all in need,
Annette, Maya, Cassie, Schroeder & Sophie
