You can go over the dog with a flea comb, which should snag any ticks. I
would also put FRONTLINE or whatever Tick killer you use on him.
Places to check carefully: all around the ears and in the ears: around the
jaw, between the toes but ears are a tick's favorite spot.
You can ask your Veterinarian to do a tick titer on your dog to identify any
tick-bourne disease he might have, or you can put him on a regimen of
Doxycycline on general principles.
A lot of trackers and dogs that work in the field are given Doxycycline
every couple of months just in case the dog has picked up something nasty
from a tick, even wearing Frontline (or whatever).
