This Saturday we are going to have a "Blessing of the Animals" and I was
looking through photos and houndie things I'd saved.

This is a true story about our Emma and as Apple Harvest is due here in the
Grreat Northwest here is that story. Maybe some of your Hounds do this or
a version of it?

Ever have fruit trees hat mysteriously just took FOREVER to bear fruit? We
did.
Emma circles the miniature apple trees looking up. She is so intent she
seems not to notice anything but the scanning of the trees.
We nearly kill ourselves trying not to laugh to loudly and break her
concentration.
It is a wonder watching her "work" the trees. Stealth and determination!
Circling and circling neck cranked sideways and back she spies The "One".
Emma takes aim...LEAPS UP biting the air...A MISS!
We laugh and laugh and she looks over at us in her
"haughty way" which makes us laugh even harder. Emma thinks we are idiots.

She is back to work: circling and circling low to the ground, intent, Emma
is ready ~~~ aiming high (as the season goes on she has to leap higher and
higher as she's already gotten all the low hanging ones).
Emma leaps into the air height into the sky! Its a go! She's got one!
Soon!! She is off down the hill with her prize! She fires herself;hurtling up
the ramp to the deck, around the tables and chairs, couches around the
corners...thundering in! Thwack! She lands on the pillow in the bedroom and
settles in to enjoy her "catch" eating one tiny little bite at a time, shaking
her head in between bites--I is sour!
The Basset she landed on is now sharing his pillow expectantly, his
attention intently on her, watching as she bites a small piece and flings it.
Bassets come from all around and watch and wait for a little bit to fly their
way.
Making faces up at us in between bites and shaking her head; her lips all
puckery. Finally all gone, mostly gone, small bits all around, with Emma's
furrends busily poking the bits about the floor or wall.
Emma hops up on the bed and shakes noisily and well. Apple bits and
FLINGER-SPIT fly!
With abandon Emma begins to roll as if scratching a tremendous itch-very
satisfying ! Snorting and talking as happy a can be!
We laugh till we cry sometimes. There is nothing like being owned by a
Basset.

Love and Woofs,
Remebering Emma
