The Time Magazine article is definitely worth a read.  It was actually the lead Sports Story in the magazine and the cover is widely credited as a turning point making the breed popular in the US.  If you want an original copy of the entire magazine mine is going to be auctioned at the TSBHR Boardwaddle Dinner 4/17/09.
