Well, Elder Clara, if you want to see a swimming basset,
I've got video of a swimming basset - actually two swimming
bassets!  If  you want to see, here's a link to Elmo in the pool;
you can click on other titles at the top of the page to see Gracie
swimming, too:

And to the Drooler who asked if bassets can swim with
those short legs . . .

Elmo and Gracie both wear an inflatable e-collar as a
floatie when they are in the pool area. I would never
consider letting them around a pool without them. We
don't have a pool at our house (rats!), but they go to swim
therapy because of arthritis issues.

Elmo in particular has really short legs; Gracie's are
a little longer, but for some reason she insists on
dunking her little pointed head in the water about
every other stroke. So floaties are necessary for these
two hounds. Actually, Elmo HAS to have a floatie
because what he likes to do best is FLOAT. He's
always been a lazy boy and being in the pool
really doesn't motivate him all that much except
now and then. That's Gracie's job - she can get
him moving!

By the way the inflatable e-collars work well for after
surgeries - they're not as hard for the dog to move
around with. I got mine from Petco online.
