[Dailydrool] ACL injury question ...

Hi. A friend's dog (a wannabe, but still very cute and dear) has injured
her ACL, and the treatment is surgery. But, her dog is 12, with congestive
heart failure and kidney disease (both controlled by meds), and she's really
concerned about the risks of surgery. The dog can't put weight on her leg,
though it doesn't seem to cause her pain when lying down -- she never licks or
chew at it, doesn't flinch or yelp when it's palpated, and she's not a stoic
dog.

(To make this basset-related, my Blueberry had TWO ACL surgeries -- TPLO --
so I know what she's going through; but BB was much, much younger, strong and
healthy then.)

My friend is just a wreck. Her little dog is really happy, otherwise
healthy. She doesn't know what to do. Risk the complications of surgery? What
else -- she can't have her go through the rest of her life with a torn ACL?

Has anyone been through this? Any advice or thoughts would be really
appreciated.

Thanks,
Beth (Duchess ATB and Blueberry ATB)
