Dogs are like kids except they never get their adult brains.  They
are, generally, perpetually two years old--at least in the head!  So
expect Bertha to be "funny" around some people, just like a two year
old.  Like a two year old, they can be potty trained, learn to "talk"
a few "words" (you just have to figure out what her "words" mean) and
give you plenty of unconditional love.  Bassets are notorious for
being "food dependent" and will counter cruise if allowed (that means
stealing things from on the kitchen/bath counters, kitchen and end
tables and from stove tops,  even if you think it's put far enough
back.  They love belly rubs and to have the base of their ears
massaged gently.  Dog biscuits are their best friends, but only in
moderation, otherwise they develop weight issues.  And like any mom of
a two year old will tell you, watch out when they are being too quiet!
