I guessed David Kahn who did a lot of TV theme songs, including "Leave it to Beaver" and "The Adam's  Family", but I have no proof that he was a basset lover.

PS - I just spent the most lovely hour laying in bed with Pierre, massaging him for both his arthritis and allergies.  He moans with delight, and it is my favorite time of the day.  Now off prednisone, he is clearly losing weight, so I need to fix up special chow tonight to get him interested in kibble again.  Of course all the hounds will get some, so they should love him extra special, too.
