Bill here, press agent/personal trainer to Miss Angela Basset, Droop and Drool Diva of Wichita and Sedgwick County

Taking the personal trainer side of my job seriously, I at one time attempted to incorporate playing ball into Miss Angela's fitness regime. I procured a brightly colored ball which also had a tinkling bell and a squeeze noise feature, assuming that if the color and movement did not appeal to Angie, the sounds might. I flung the ball smartly and Miss Angela picked up the movement and took a couple of tentative steps toward the ball before it came to rest. The second time, I just rolled it out in front of her. She ran to it and put her "dainty" paw on it. I tried many methods of putting the ball out there, but only once did she go to get it. When she brought it back, I threw it again. That was a big mistake. She gave me a look that clearly said "Well, if you wanted it, why did you throw it away? Henceforth, don't include me in your pointless
charades." She never again retrieved a ball.

That said, Miss Angela does consider herself an expert in the whole ball-fetch
game. Apparently her dramatic development has given her enough of a grounding in kinestheology that she is able to diagnose deficiencies in the efforts of others playing the game. At her Doggy Day Care, when the animal recreation specialists throw out a ball or other object and the other dogs run to fetch it, Miss Angela runs along beside or behind them, barking directions loudly. She frequently comes home hoarse from her fruitless attempts at improving the techniques of her fellow daycampers.

Angela is sleeping right now. She has been acting very nonchalant, pretending that she doesn't know that I have a big party/open house planned for her birthday on Friday. Like everything else good in her life, she accepts it quietly as her due. It's good to be the Diva.

Bill (I think alcohol for the two leggers may be a more important item in the party planning than dog treats)
Angela (Oh, Dog! When they drink, they get all smooshy and cuddly. It is hard for me to maintain my dignity in the face of such fawning)
