First, we are sending drool to those in need and basset hugs too. We have lots to go around. Everyone is sleeping after going for walkies and in one case, sniffies.

Miss Maggie has acquired the habit of eating charred wood. A week ago we cleaned up sticks and stuff in the back yard and burned a lot of stuff, mostly sticks. There are lots of small pieces of charcoal and they have become Maggie's favorite food or snack. She keeps trying to bring them in to have a chaw. She had been particularly ornery tonight about one chunk of burned wood. We have discouraged her from eating it or chewing on it but she is very protective of her charcoal and won't leave its side. I need to know how bad it is for her to chow down on this stuff. The other girls could care less. They were only interested when the fire was burning. Shelby was fascinated. Gotta watch that one.

Shelbs is a hoot to take on a walk because she doesn't walk. She goes for a stop and sniff. I'm guessing she has had minimal walks or exposure to being in the yard. She will go out in the back and sit and sit and sit. She just enjoys the sights and sounds. I've found she is hard of hearing if she can't see who is calling her. She startles if you call loudly. I think she thinks she is in trouble when you yell. It is such a joy to watch her enjoy sniffing all the grass, concrete, mailboxes and anything in her path. She takes her time and loves to smell the basset "roses".

I would like to ask for a little drool for Marley. She is very itchy and has begun losing her hair in spots. I am calling the vet in the morning to get her looked at. She itches a lot when it is warm. I don't know if it is a food thing or environmental. There are no bugs that I can see. She is Miss Tempermental and is crabbing right now. According to her, her life is a trial, or rather her slaves are her trial. They just can't seem to get things right. She needs to do more training.

We hope everyone has a great week. We who are crabby are about to be furminated. Purring will now commence.

Ninja, Marley, Maggie, and Shelby the foster
