It has been pointed out that I never gave a final count on Purple's
litter, or a progress report.  Here it is:

All we got was
the one very healthy very hungry very vigorous girl.  She is doing
great and Purple is, as usual, a fantastic mom.  We have had to do
NOTHING.  Purple does all the work - feeding, grooming (lots of
tongue baths), tidying up (I have yet to actually see any puppy poo in the
whelping box), protection (have you ever seen a basset herd?  When
Oliver and our four 8 month old puppies escaped from their run while
I was cleaning last weekend they went running to check out the
puppy.  Purple was NOT happy and firmly directed each of them back to
the kennel where they belonged!).  I wish all litters were this
easy.
