It is with a very heavy and sad heart that I let you all know that Dutch
made the journey to The Bridge last night after a week long battle of
illness.

Dutch was only 9 weeks old when he made his journey and was pending adoption
by a wonderful family who couldn't wait to take him home when he was ready.
He was quite the character and though he still had lots of growing to do, he
was in training everyday and you'd think he was a full grown basset. His
favorite past time was to perfect his howl with his head straight up in the
air letting out the loudest Aaaarrrrrooooo!!! He had the longest and
floppiest ears of the bunch and was all about the bassetude!!
He will be dearly missed by all of us here at BHRA.

While he was the first and only one to show any signs of being ill and
passed, despite our best efforts, away within a week of his first symptom -
two of his brothers and sisters demonstrated that first sign early this
morning (just after Dutch's passing).
We are still trying to determine what caused this sudden turn from happy
healthy puppies to sick little ones who don't have enough time to survive
before diagnosis & treatment. The only two things we are pretty sure of is
that Dutch had coccidia (sp?) and we feel that their immune systems did not
get all they needed while in the womb and through their mother's milk
afterwards due to their large size verses her small frame.

All in all from what we can figure, there are 2 puppies so ill they are
fighting for their lives and 4 more in danger who have bunked with Dutch
since his first symptom.
Three are Dutch's siblings and the other 3 are from the second litter.

The other nine we feel are safe as they came home with me before the
illnesses arouse and none of them have showed any signs of anything.
Nonetheless, they are being carefully monitored.

Please keep them all in your prayers.
