[Dailydrool] looking for a female adoptable/rescue Basset puppy for this spring/summer

Hello All!

I have been in contact with several Basset rescues around my home (northern KY). However, I have not been able to find a purely Basset puppy to adopt. I currently have an almost 10-year-old Basset, Betsy, and my husband and I (no kids, just Betsy and some horses) have decided that we really need to go with a Basset puppy in order to have that new girl integrate into our family. Our Betsy is a bit spoiled (big surprise!) but we think she'd tolerate a puppy, especially because we will be able to work with the puppy while letting Betsy be the alpha in her golden years. We had a lot of fun training her, and I think she may be one of a select few Bassets that you can trust if you leave food on the coffee table. She has been known to ask for permission to sit on couches at other people's houses, and they have been so surprised that she always gets to do it! I found out from someone at the Alabama Basset Rescue that she is also unusual in that she will
run and walk with us - when she was a little younger she could keep up with us on up to a 2-hour horseback ride. She absolutely loves to go on the "big ride" even now, although she stops earlier and goes back home to take a nap sooner now.

Anyhow, before I ramble on forever (as all of us Basset lovers can do when talking about our favourites!), please let me know if you know of a female Basset puppy who would be ready to come home this spring/summer. My husband's summer break starts at the beginning of May, so that would be the very best time, although we know you can't plan everything! We would prefer to have a puppy that is just coming from her mother so we can start integrating and training her into the family from day one. We had a lot of success with Betsy, and I think it was partly because I was able to visit every 2-5 days from her day six until we brought her home at 5-1/2 weeks (that was when we realized our source was really a backyard breeder - they wanted all the puppies gone by 6 weeks - too early!). We also are convinced that we need a pure Basset, because any other type of dog mixed in will likely add more energy, and even though Betsy can go for a long time, she will
sleep, and sleep, and sleep some more if we don't do anything exciting. We don't want a dog more excitable and I don't know of any more mellow dogs than a Basset.

Hopefully this explains our situation. If you can help, feel free to contact me at jennifer.myka at yahoo.com directly. We will go to a reputable breeder if that turns out to be the best option, but would prefer to help adopt/rescue a puppy first because we believe that is a good thing to do. If we can't find our new girl that way, we will go to that Plan B because we are that committed to a Basset puppy.

Thanks! Jennifer
