Internal expression is usually reserved for glands that are proving
difficult to express or on dogs whose anal glands are difficult to reach
externally. This includes obese dogs, dogs breeds with no tail and anal
glands that are impacted. You do not insert your finger very far at all, and
no, most dogs like it not at all. Some dogs complain no matter how you do
it, and others pay no attention to having their anals expressed whatsoever.
If you try to express a gland and it feels full and hard and you cannot get
anything out, stop. Take her to the Vet and have the Vet do it.
