[Dailydrool] Basset hates crate

I need advice on how to help my rescue basset accept his crate.  He is now rubbing his nose raw on the side of it in hope of springing free, I believe.
We only use it when no one is home, as he is not trustworthy in the house yet.  He is about 18 months old, and we have had him for 6 weeks.
I would appreciate any ideas.
