[Dailydrool] Vaccines

So I guess I am either trying to cause trouble or just continue the discussion. I read and listen to everything on the Drool and went into Charles' 15 year old check up determined to bypass his shots.

My vet told me about a dog they had in the back with Lepto they did not expect to be able to save. Yes, we have raccoons and possums and rats and mice and armadilloes, all of which could contaminate our yards with Lepto so Charles got his Lepto shot. Then she convinced me that since I did rescue and brought a buncha strange dogs in (on occasion) I should do the other one too - Distemper, I think.

So was I a fool? We have never had a problem and the shots were $15 as opposed to over $100 for titer tests. I caved, but want to do more research before the 9 year olds are due next year. I really am not questioning vaccinating the 1 and 2 year olds for a few more years-just seems like safer and cheaper.

Someone just said on the Drool why risk a vaccine reaction but I am tempted to say why risk the disease which is much more likely to be fatal.

OOOOOOOhhhhhhh I can see the myriad of responses coming! But you are helping to educate me so more facts than emotions, please!!!! xoxoxo

Oh yeah! http://resku.homestead.com/ for all your Santa shopping! I used my last turkey sticker on an envelope today so will be rolling right into the Christmas Bling for future book sales! Thanks for your continued support for my literary efforts and the houndies we donate to!!!
