Our Little Gouhls Have Arrived

BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP...MOMMY IS SICK
**PLEASE CROSSPOST**
HHBR was notified that there was a very pregnant female and her mate in a
euthanizing shelter in Oklahoma....yes we know this is not typically our
neck of the woods for rescue, but when they told us all the local Basset
Rescues were over full and had no room for her we just couldn't leave her or
her mate there. So away we went, not wanting Maria to give birth in the
shelter, and came home with a very pregnant Maria and a very protective
Sancho. Sancho is an absolute riot, protective of his "woman" but yet so
loving and playful. Maria on the other hand just didn't feel good. We
quickly took her to the vet where we learned she was a week away from giving
birth to "7" bundles of joy, but she was full of internal parasites and was
just not breathing correctly, severely emaciated. We de-wormed her with a
safe wormer for her and the unborn puppies and contributed the heavy
breathing to having that many kiddos and being malnourished herself. On the
late evening of September 1st and into the wee hours of September 2nd Maria
gave birth to 8 healthy bundles of puppy squeeks, that last one was hiding!!
During delivery she acted as if she had never seen a puppy in her life, all
though it is very clear she has been used for nothing but breeding, and was
a little rough with her babies. If it were not for the foster mom being
there to take the puppies from her as she gave birth to each one we are
positive they would have not survived. We allowed Maria to birth all her
babies, and after labor was done she quickly became a good Mommy, nurturing
them and allowing them to suckle without any hesitation, yet we could see
she just did not feel good. Within 2 days and a few more trips to the vet it
was discovered Maria was severely anemic, and most likely had a blood
parasite and had developed Mastitis. Placed on an antibiotic seemed to renew
Maria's energy and also help with the Mastitis allowing her to continue to
nurse all 8 of her babies intermittently. The foster mom has had to
supplement feed the 4 smallest puppies with replacement milk off and on
throughout the days and nights!! But yet the lingering heavy breathing still
plagues Maria. At 3.4-4 weeks after birth and being off an antibiotic for a
weeks time we notice Maria again is not acting 100% and it was diagnosed
Maria has Pyometria, an infected uterus and had to undergo an emergency spay
She at this time also had a chest X-ray where it was discovered she has a
slightly enlarged heart, cause unknown. The spay has left Maria with no milk
production and now her babies are having to be bottle fed and fed mush way
before they are meant to be weaned. And Mommy Maria has to undergo a cardiac
evaluation. We are in desperate need of help for Mommy. Her total vet bills
are encroaching $800 and we have not even set up the Cardiac Evaluation yet.
this alone will cost $400-$450 and that is with 1/2 off rescue discount!!
WE NEED HELP!!! Without the kind donations from supporters we would never be
able to help the hounds we do. Our funds go right into vetting the next
hounds in need!!
