Today Ms. Beasley and I met with an ear specialist/surgeon. After reading
16 pages of history from Dr. Corn (Beasley's vet) and chatting with me, then
examining her ear, he gave me two choices. First, deep ear cleaning under
anesthesia or the total ear canal ablation (I hope I have that right). He
explained that the deep ear cleaning will not cure the problem, and most
likely there is a 60% chance that the ear infections will continue.
However, with the TEA, the ear canal is removed and the area sown closed.
I, of course, asked the cost, as I live on SS disability. He quoted me a
price of $800-$1000, which doesn't seem too pricey to me. Their office will
work with me on making payments too, a relief to me. Ms. Beasley had the
pre-op blood work done today, that only cost $96.00 and I can call on
Wednesday for the results. So as it stands now, she goes in on the morning
of Nov.2, but I won't be able to pick her up until two days later, Nov.
4th. Doc works between four offices and he wants her to have his staff
watch her carefully. The vet really liked her too, he talked to her and
petted her and gave her lots of ear scritches. I promised her a nice piece
of grilled chickie that I made yesterday as a reward and sure enough, she
remembered and hasseled me until I realized what she wanted so I chopped it
up and put it on top of her dinner.

If anyone has had a houndie go through this procedure, please email me
directly and share. I do know that the procedure is painful, but if it can
relieve the constant pain I know she has, it will be well worth it.

Ms. Beasley and I are sending sad ahroos and long distance hugs to Janet on
the loss of Shelby. Rest in peace, sweet angel.

Snooters,
Ruthie Beattie &
Ms. Beasley Ann (Mama, YOU promised me some chickie and I kept you to it!)
