[Dailydrool] Hal & the cone of terror

Hal went to the doc today to recheck his eye. Is better, slightly. He is
able to open it fairly comfortably as long as he gets the atropine drops.
Vet increased his anti-inflammatory drops to 4x/day along with everything
else. Eye specialist is supposed to call tomorrow to let us know if we need
to add prednisone to the list of meds.
She wants him to wear a cone. Soooooo... yesterday I dutifully got one &
put it on him. He tried to run away from it & fell down the doggie ramp.
When he landed he stood there and shook. Poor widdle kid! (He's only about
2yrs old). Today I caught him rubbing at his eye & put it back on him. (he
was laying on his bed in front of the wood stove looking totallly dejected)
I then went upstairs to finish the dishes. Less than 1 minute later I
heard him scream. As I run back thru the house & down the ramp I hear a big
BANG & the sound of dog falling outside. Then I hear him screamming in the
yard. I get into the laundry room (mind you, this actually only takes
seconds) & the door is shut. I always leave it open so the "kids" can come
& go as they please. Sara Sue & Spencer (who is still kinda groggy from his
dental & xrays) is standing there staring at the closed door. I fling open
the door to see Hal stumbling around the yard screaming in terror. I put my
arms around him & unhook the torn cone. He got it caught in the laundry
room door, which slammed shut on his head & tore the cone.
Now not only does he have a boo boo eye, but mean mommy puts the cone of
terror on his head & gives him a concussion! <sigh> I ordered him a pair of
doggles today. Thank goodness I can take him to work with me.
Good news, Spencer's xrays showed that he has arthritis in both elbows & one
shoulder, but that his back, hips & back legs are perfect (for a basset).
This is really great news considering his former Owner/monster would pick
him up by his skin & throw him. Have been giving him boswellia/licorice
root/yucca root for arthritis & he has started running and playing (and
climbing on the dining room table) again! Vet said he won't need any other
meds at this time since he's doing so well.
Thanks for the drool, & the laughs & the friendship!
