Bassets are very good at tracking and love it--Tracking tests test  
their ability to follow a specific human scent (that of the  
tracklayer) to the end of the track, and indicate an article (usually  
a glove) that belongs to the track layer.  Many Bassets have AKC  
tracking titles.  Hunt Tests are are also very popular with Bassets  
and their people, but these involve finding the scent of a rabbit (the  
species Bassets were originally bred to hunt).  We have been unable to  
find Hunt Tests on the West Coast, but there are AKC sponsored  
Tracking tests all over the country.   Even tho Bassets are very adept  
at tracking, they do require training.   If you are interested, check  
the dog training clubs in your area.
