[Dailydrool] My Basset's Party

Hi, everyone, 

I'm new to this list. My tri-color basset hound Roofie (nicknames Rufus Roughstuff, Rufus Goofus, Roofie Dog) had his first anniversary party this past weekend to celebrate the day a year ago last September when he came to live with me. He will be three in January. I got him from an animal shelter where he had been living for a month after being picked up on a country road by someone. When I got him he was emaciated and depressed. Now he is a very happy dog. He enjoyed opening his presents which were all squeaky toys and playing with other dogs in my large back yard, including a miniature dachshund, a poodle, a golden retriever, and a darling three-month old mixed breed puppy. There were 12 children there and 8 dog-loving adults. Everyone signed his guest book and left comments. There was people puppy treats (shredded wheat with chocolate and peanut butter) and fancy puppy treats (coated with carob and decorated with sprinkles) that I got from a dog
 catalog. The highlight was when a portrait of Roofie arrived, painted by my massage therapist, which promptly went onto the living room wall. The weather was perfect, though rain had been predicted. In all, it was a very happy day, and Roofie got absolutely exhausted! Can't wait for next year's second anniversary party.
