Maybe I shouldn't call Shelby's last couple of days adventures but they feel like that to me. And not in a fun way either. We took Shelby back to the vet on Monday. That may only be yesterday but it feels a lot longer. After her first vet visit, Shelbs perked up and acted like a kid again or at least an energetic oldster. I thought she was a lot better. I should just quit thinking. Anyway, we went back to the vet for a pressure check yesterday. After work, I loaded Shelby and a son in the car and we all went off to the vet. I had the son in tow to carry Shelby. She doesn't know how to walk on a leash and won't do it even if we attach one so carrying her is easier--if you are me because I get the son to do it. Got lots of comments on the pudgy basset. She is that, but one of the sweetest girls we have ever met.

Her pressure had gone up another 12 points. Even with all the drops and everything. The pressure in her good eye was up too but not enough for alarm yet. The vet was fairly certain that her sight was gone in the left eye and did some rudimentary testing. It was hard to tell because she wasn't into reacting to much of anything. He felt like she was still in a lot of pain. So he wanted to inject the eye to "kill" it. I didn't want her to be in pain. I wasn't sure what to do. I also didn't want to put her under anesthesia if it wasn't necessary. I trust my vet. He works with GABR folks in this area. We decided to let him do the eye. He did a blood panel for oldies to check for anything out of the ordinary.

We took her back this morning. I told him to clean her teeth while she was out. I wouldn't have done it otherwise. Poor old girl. She did not want to stay there. We have never left her anywhere overnight or even all day except at home. I had to work and it was so hard waiting to hear from the vet. SHE MADE IT THROUGH AND IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She waddled out of the back at the vet's and looked like her old self. She didn't react too much to us but was still a little sleepy. She had 4 teeth pulled on top of the eye. What a trooper. She hasn't whimpered or complained at all. She's been out surveying her back yard.

I am so, so glad she is back home with us. I emailed the son who is away and he was really wishing he could see her again. I think he just might. The son who hates all hair went with me to the vet and he was really upset. He kept asking me if I trusted the vet. He acts like he doesn't like the animals but it is just a cover. He really has a very kind heart. All the boys do in their own way. Shelby will get to sleep with her boy tonight. We are so very grateful that we have more time for bellyrubs and rambles. Shelbs couldn't have dinner tonight for fear it would make her sick but she got a few small bites of chicken. Her appetite hasn't suffered.

We are sending thanks again to all who sent drool or just good thoughts. We are thankful for the vet and his staff. Bassets rule.

A very happy Mom with Ninja, Marley, Maggie and Shelby with the wandering kitties
