[Dailydrool] puppy food vs adult food

My understanding (my opinion only) is that in large, heavy boned breeds such
as Bassets it is desirable to switch to an adult food at 6 months. You want
to lower the amount of calcium that they get just slightly, so that bones do
not grow too fast. I have always switched my pups to adult food at 6 months
or thereabouts, and so far (except for Llewis who was born with defects)
never had a problem with bone growth.
I could be completely wrong here. Check with your Vet or, if you have a
breeder or know a breeder, check with them. Certainly by the time a Basset
is a yr old he should be on regular dog food.
Some of the companies now have "All Stages of Life" food. I am not sure how
much faith I put in that claim, but....check it out.
