Tom asked--
"Does anyone have a basset that eats only when it is
hungry and you leave food down?"
Not only do I leave food down, but I just throw it on the kitchen floor.
When we had only Lilie and Daisy the Yorkie, I left it in a bowl and they
shared. Neither are very food oriented. I just switched bowls daily and
the new food was on the bottom.
When Daffodil came to live with us, I had to be careful because Lilie had no
intention of sharing anything with her! She would have metered the air if
she could.
When I switched them to Flint River Ranch food, I decided to dispense with
bowls completely and simply throw it onto the side of the kitchen. They eat
it happily because it isn't being served as dog food. To them, it's just a
great treat they get twice a day. Sometimes it can sit there for hours and
they get back to it when they're are hungry.
Cleaning the floor is easy with my floor machine and vacuum cleaner. Much
easier than watching them fight, or separating them and waiting.
Katie, Lilie, Daffodil and Daisy the Yorkie
