>From the day we got Cloud we tried to be the good puppy parents. Bath in a sink, hold him close so he would not get scared. When it came to nail trimming time you would think we were killing him. Squirming all over the place, yipping, oh and holding the paw was almost dangerous without leather gloves. I was watching one of the dog trainers on Animal Planet (Victoria Stillwell I think), she was working with an owner who's dog would not let anyone brush or cut the nails. They suggested using a food distraction while doing nails. This is a 2 person feat. Find a treat that you don't give your dog on a regular basis or introduce a new one. Have whoever is holding the dog hold the treat so the dog can lick the treat to get the taste, the dog now will be focused on the treat while the other person can clip the nails. Ben and I use this with both boys, Cloud still pulls his paw back every once in awhile but he is usually so focused on the treat he could care less. Our nail trimming treat is Ol Roy grilled chicken treats, its just the right length to do all 4 paws, he gets the rest of the treat when we are finished.
