[Dailydrool] Bo: So far so good still holding

An update on Bo (with colitis and secondary hernias). We just had a call from the vetspital that Bo has done well with his second set of surgeries, which took place this morning, to repair the hernias on his left side. He was in the hospital three weeks ago to have the hernias on his right side repaired. The hernias were caused by straining during his last bad bout of colitis. Three weeks ago Bo looked really terrible, down to 36 pounds (from a high of 49 a year ago). The weight loss has resulted from the out of control episodic colitis. I'm pleased to say that with his between surgeries regimen of 10 pills a day plus five meals a day of boiled chicken and white sticky rice, in the three weeks between surgeries, Bo gained two pounds and had no colitis. The vet is still working out a maintenance regimen for meds. I will probably keep up the frequent meals of chicken and rice, adding in W/D kibble for vitamins and other nutrients. And there are other
challenges to be solved. But I feel like we are turning a corner towards improvement. Bo's healthy brother, Harley, has also gained two pounds despite getting smaller portions of everything. The two hounds have started working as a team to let me know whenever it's mealtime again (which seems like all the time). Bo starts moaning and fixes me with "the look". After a few moans, if I don't jump up and move right to the kitchen, Harley jumps in my lap (or at night if I'm sleeping, onto my snoring corpse) and starts smothering me with kisses. It's very effective. I think I will try to eliminate the middle of the night feeding. It is very like having an infant again. Anyhoo--thanks again for all the healing Drool that has been floating both Bo and me to safety over these past couple of months. I have given up on the carpet cleaning issues.
