So I was testing out my cam on my Blackberry and shot some Cassiti videos.

Thought I'd send over her little playful mood she was in tonight...Rotten too.

The one video you will see the tiny fence barrier we have up that she just walks right over top. The walls are on an angle/diagnol so it's hard to put a gate up...not sure what I can put up that will work on an angle..

Anyways, enjoy.

Hi Droolers,
Healing drool, love and prayers to all in need.
I participate in  BOTW from time to time, mostly when pictures are needed, and I, for this event, submitted a photo of Pierre Sr. ATB.  What lovely mates with whom to be in the contest.  (Shhh I am rooting for Elder Clara myself)
I would love to hear the stories of all the other houndies involved.  For some reason, all the faces are touching my heart more than normal, and I want them all to win.  Really, they are all winners, anyway, loved and cared for I am sure.
I have to send a public thank you to Nancy Gallagher.  Nancy, because of you and Daily Drool, I have learned so much about bassets, love and life.  I have made cyber friends with like minded folks, I have learned to channel all my disposable income for rescue either for purchases or donations, and I have learned the love of owning a rescue dog.  I am so grateful to be a part of this community of basset loving wonderful people.  I hope all is OK with you, truly.

I cannot write much more now, because this all is based on Pierre Sr. in the contest, and I still cry for him terribly.
Pierre jr., a rescue from OBR has a play date on Sunday with Ginger, a rescue from BHRA, and I helped with Ginger's rescue.  It is Ginger's 1 year Gotcha day and Pierre's first play date with a hound, not a Mom in Assisted Living.  Pierre is my social butterfly as was Pierre Sr.  I don't know how they are so spiritually cloned but they are, and I love it!!!!
Hugs to all,
Jackie and the hounds

I'm mostly a lurker, but now need some information and advice from the best
source on the subject, Droolers. My beautiful Barney has possibly developed
Cushings.  The most evident sign is excessive drinking, and the inevitable
wetting. Had him to the vet last evening and she ruled out diabetes. She
took blood and called the DH this afternoon. Said she's leaning towards
Cushings but wants to do more testing, such as an ultrasound. I have a call
into the office so that I can discuss it further with her.
I was under the impression that the bloodwork was the answer to the Cushings
question. I am concerned about additional testing, not sure why it's
necessary.
I'm looking for any help and advice from those who have experience with
this. My boy will be 13 this April and he's my big, lovable hunk of hound.
Definitely his Mommy's boy.  Thanks.

While Gabby had initial good results with the Xalatan on Sunday and
Monday, the exam today showed that, even with the meds, the pressure in
the right eye was steadily coming back up.  Her drainage angles in
*both* eyes are closed also.
The eye specialist was honest and said that there was no sight in the
eye and she was *very* doubtful that it would ever come back.
She did say that, if we wanted, she could do surgery to laser the
ciliary body and insert a shunt, but she wasn't optimistic that it would
be any kind of effective.  If we wanted to do that option, we had to
have the surgery at once -- before the eye suffered any more damage.
Our other option was evisceration with intrascleral prosthesis.  If we
accepted that Gabby would never use that eye again, this surgery would
insure that she would not have to suffer with pain in that eye again --
and we could concentrate solely on doing our utmost to keep her
remaining eye healthy for as long as possible.
We have decided that this second option was the best for Gabby and us.
Gabby is only 5 years old and we are aware that she may very well be
blind before she leaves us for the Bridge.
I'd be interested in hearing about other Droolers opinions and experiences.

At any rate, it is time to title another well-deserving houndette -- This
wonderful lady has only come into the good life in the last few years, but in
that short time she has made her mark, not only on her family, but on the
hundreds, possibly thousands, of people who have grown to love her. Wise beyond
her many years, she rules her family with an iron paw inside a velvet glove, and
is a talented writer and fundraiser to boot.? And her family (the human side
anyway) considers her wishes above all else.? And so, I would like to introduce
our newest PW, none other than PW OEBE ELDER CLARA!

Woo hoo, Elder Clara!  You go girl!  A well deserved honor if ever there was one.  Our Dozer sends special snooters to you...he's thinks you're a pretty hot number also, hehehe...

Helene
I myself am not a fan of over vaccinating.  The newest protocol with vaccinations are Rabies as required by city or county (some require yearly some are fine with every 3 years), and DHPP every 3 years, Parvo and Lepto every year.  Those are "core" vaccines.  Depending on the area you live in and risk - Influenza, Lyme and Bordetella.  If you are rescuing/ fostering dogs I consider Influenza (yearly) and bordetella (every 6 months) core for those homes.

Another alternative is doing titers for Distemper and Parvo.  Although the titer cannot assure that the dog will not get sick it does indicate that the dog's immune system SHOULD be able to respond and fight an infection.

Many times clients don't want to pay for the titers because they are more expensive than the vaccine.  The biggest problem I face is people don't come in for their yearly examines because they think "Oh the vaccine is still good."  Although that is true a yearly (or twice yearly for seniors) exam is frequently not seen as an important part of maintaining health in pets.  As I have stated before when I open my Drool only clinic I will be the happiest vet in the world because then I will have educated, caring, Daily Drool clients and I will skip happily from appointment to appointment.... really I WILL skip.

I would like to thank those of you who gave me some advice on intervertebral disc disease.  Floyd seemed to be doing better after the prednisone and the muscle relaxers...until tonight.  He started acting like he was in pain again and this time he is loosing coordination of his hind legs.  We will revisit the vet tomorrow if necessary and I am afraid that she is gonna sugest surgery.  Has anyone gone the surgery route?  If so, did surgery work?  Any problems?  I am suspecting that this will be the next step and I want to make sure that Floyd will benefit.

Thanks again!!

Saw a story on line, which had links into yet another story and then another
(the internet, that good ol' hub and spoke/wagon wheel of directions) ...
LOL

... anyway ...

http://tinyurl.com/howl-law-and-order

in a few of the clips near the beginning, they show a hound howling to the
Law & Order theme ... and so the Rachel Maddow show dug into why dogs howl
at that theme and some others.. they also asked for submissions from people
that have hounds (dogs in general) that would howl when they heard human
sounds or anything like the law & order thing.

Tomorrow 2/24 is the 10th anniversary of our Quincy Von Moose's coming home with us. It's hard to believe that 9 week old pup is now a graying senior gentlehound. He is still active and plays nearly every day. Over the years he has become very vocal about letting us know that treats are needed after he eats his dinner - and all day long too. The last few years he will bay at us if we don't let him in soon enough after returning home or just plain too long outside. He is dearly loved by all of our family especially our three grandchildren 11, 4, and 4 years. We hope we have many more years of love from this gentle smooshy gentlehound.

There is a 14 year old basset at the Young Williams Animal Center in
Knoxville TN that is in desperate need of rescue or a forever home.  He
was part of an abuse case and the owner was prosecuted and lost custody
of the dog.  From what I understand, he doesn't have long.  He was taken
from the owner because they hit him in the head.  If you can open your
home or heart up to this poor guy, please do.  He deserves to live out
the rest of his life knowing love, kindness and the good life.  I have
sent a link to his pictures.  Please contact Karen Lively at
865-215-6668 or email her at klively at knoxpets.org

know too so I can update all the people that are currently trying to
help him.  You can contact me here or at my home email at
kimmiechloelola at gmail.com.  If needed, I am sure I could help get a
transport together to get him where he is going.  His name is Droopy.

Our Sweet Sarah (ATB in November) shivered when she was in pain. She had arthritis in her back legs, and the vet had prescribed Previcox for the arthritis pain. Since the drug had "possible" side effects of eventually causing liver problems, we took her off the Previcox from time to time. Whenever we did that, she shivered. So, we knew for sure the shivering was caused by pain. Since she was 13 years old, we thought she should live out her life pain-free, and we decided we'd keep her on the Previcox even if it could cause liver problems.

Some of you may already have seen these, but when I read
them, looking at Bubba OEBE, I had to chuckle.

TEN LARGEST PEEVES WE HOUNDIES HAVE ABOUT OUR MOM AND DAD
PERSONS.

'1' Blaming your farts on me..... not funny.... not funny
at all!!!

'2' Yelling at me for barking. I'M A DAMN DOG!

? 3' Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff
out. Exactly whose walk is this anyway?

'4' Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose. Stop
it!

'5' Any haircut that involves bows or ribbons. Now you know
why we chew your stuff up when you're not home.

'6' The sleight of hand, fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog!
Whoooo Hoooooooo what a proud moment for the top of the food
chain.

'7' Taking me to the vet for 'the big snip', then acting
surprised when I freak out every time we go back!

'8' Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests.
Sorry, but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing
yet.

'9' Dog sweaters. Hello ??? Haven't you noticed the fur?

'10' How you act disgusted when I lick myself. Look, we both
know the truth. You're just jealous.

Now lay off me on some of these things. We both know who's
boss here! You don't see me picking up your poop do you?

EVERY HOUNDIE HAS HIS DAY.

WE HOUNDIES ALWAYS OFFERS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE (AS LONG AS YOU
FEED US!)

Today is my boys' calendar day!!!!? Rusty is the black tri, will be 9 in July, adopted from Tri-State in April 2002.? Mugzy is the gray faced tri, he will be 9 in April and Stewie, the red and white was adopted from the local shelter in Nov. 2008.? We think he is about 4 years old.

In Sept. they welcomed their first 2 legged sister and are adjusting to her wonderfully!!!

So happy calendar day to my sweet, sweet boys!!!

Very, very behind on my drools...they go back to July:(? But I am getting through them...so healing drool to all!
