We always do bloodwork on all of our dogs before they have any type of surgery. It will tell the vet if the dogs respiratory system is healthy enough to be put under. We highly recommend it. You may have  a low cost spay and neuter clinic in your area they also offer discounts on teeth cleaning. And February is national Dental month so your vet may offer a discount next month.
