buster's best friend was bradley the rottie..he was 10.  buster met bradley before he met miss casey and cooper his "siblings."  buster adopted and bonded to brad like no other.    they were inseperable.  this past memorial day brad became ill and then over the course of the summer he continued on that slippery downhill path.  throughout the summer buster remained by his side as a short nursemaid.  they were such an odd pair..this 140, then 100 pound rottie and a 43 pound basset.  buster let no other dog near his friend.

the last time brad was at the park buster stood near him almost in the shape of a T.  brad rested his hutge head on busters back..and they remained like that for about 7 minutes.  never had they done that.  neither one of them moved.  buster stood rock solid and watched his friend.  it was almost eerie..so much so i pointed it out to brad's owner.

brad passed in september.  i was with him..actually the whole time i helped his family thru the process..when he was to ill to come to the park, i brought buster and coop to his house.

the day brad pass we went to the park..i didn't want to..it was the last thing i wanted to do, believe me.  we got there and buster who is usually a mam's boy..went far off into the deep ends of the park sat by himself, thru his head back and let out this deep mournful wail that ripped your heart out.  the whole park stopped.  dogs went back to their owners.  then he let out another one.  then he sat for a bit and came back to me.

one night later i woke up at 3 am to buster jumping the puppy gate (don't ask, its a long story) and crying..but happy cries.  cooper was crying too...so i let him out of the bedroom buster had run into the living room.  there in the living room sat a huge, 140 lb bright and shiny 140 lb grinning brad.  smiling, happy as could be.  buster and coop were smiling and tails were wagging and barking like puppies.  everyone was happy.  i looked at him and said.."good to see you made him home BB (his nickname)safe."  he looked happy and healthy.  and with that he was gone.  and the boys turned around tails wagging walked back into the room and went back to bed all was good in their worlds.

i told his owner and she felt as tho a load had been lifted off of her
shoulders.  and 3 am..well that was the time her daughter would call to
let her know she was getting off work and starting to drive home..so
that was a time brad was usually stirring in his house.

was it a dream?  hallucination, visit from beyond...who knows, who cares.  i took it as a sign brad was happy, healthy and romping at the buffet, the bridge what ever.  free of pain.
