You old timers here may remember some of the stories of blind Pw.
Annabelle ATB's stubbornness and persistence.  As a puppy, she was the
hardest-headed dog I've ever met before or since.  She WOULD DO
whatever she decided she was going to do.  Our attempts to keep her in
the kitchen during the day included a gate that was screwed into the
wall on both sides; she just learned to climb over it.  Then we put a
second baby gate ON TOP of the first, thinking she'd never be able to
get over both of them (in total, they were about five feet tall).
That evening, we came home to an Annabelle in the living room.  The
gates were both still intact, in their positions.  She had apparently
climbed over and gladly fallen/jumped the five feet down. After that,
we gave up and bought a crate.

Oh, I take it back - I have met one other dog as hard-headed as Pw. A.
 Two years ago, we fostered two 5-month-old Catahoula Leopard dogs for
about a month.  One of them, Abby, kept escaping her wire crate.  She
would force her head into the spot where the front of the crate joins
the top of the crate, and shove her entire body through that tiny
crack, forcing the wire open wide enough so she could slither out.  Of
course, she scratched herself in the process.  I would not have
believed it if I hadn't watched her do it with my own eyes.
