Wow!  It's been a whopping 5 years - to the date - that our baby, Amanda 
Lynn came wandering into our lives.

Basset-less for the first time in over 11 years, we were working hard to 
deal with the loss of Bob Burns, only 2 weeks before.  Coming out of the 
shower that morning, I was startled to hear voices in the kitchen -- as Fred 
had already left for work before I hit the "rain room".  As I grabbed a robe 
and started into that side of the house, the first thing I saw was a cute 
little freckled nose sticking out from the kitchen entryway.

Skin and bones, in heat, literally covered in ticks, every infection and 
parasite known to mankind - except heartworm (thank doG) - Amanda Lynn came 
into our lives.  Apparently dumped off - she was trying to scam handouts 
from a utility truck parked in a church parking lot about 2 tenths of a mile 
from our house.  Why Fred even looked in that direction - is still a 
mystery!  I have often said that I'm not the most religious person in the 
world,  but with this story, it's either Divine Intervention - Sammi Sue and 
Bob Burns were instructing her from the Bridge - or a combination of both...

Within 45 minutes, she was at the vetman - but had become a permanent part 
of our lives in the first 45 seconds!  She has one of the sweetest 
dispositions of any dog I have ever known.  But I have to admit -- it is 
tough living in the same house with "Daddy's gurlfriend."

Today is her Calendar Day -- but as Neil Sedaka so aptly put it,  we "love 
our Calendar Girl - each and every day of the year!"
