There was an article in today's Los Angeles Times about a woman who 
was about to walk her Basset Hound when they were charged by two pit 
bulls, who attacked the Basset Hound. The woman and the owner of the 
pit bulls attempted to break up the fight but were unable to separate 
them. So the woman ran into her apartment, grabbed her gun, and shot 
one of the pit bulls; the other one ran away. The Basset Hound was 
wounded but will recover. The gun was registered and was turned over 
to police.
