We have been fostering a 7 yr old girl for a year who has spondyitis. She was found about two years ago by rescue in Ohio in a garage in pain and dragging her back legs.  They didn't know what happened to her and the vet said the vertebraes in her lower back were fusing.  She was 6 yrs old then. They gave her rest and medication and she recovered.  However,  she does have a stiff walk and hunched back.  Her ribs are weird too.  The other foster Mom before I got her said she was on Deramax for about 6 months for pain.  Now she takes nothing.  If she does seem too stiff, I give her an occassional dog aspirin.  Our vet said not to ever let anyone mess with her as far as surgery or adjustments.  It would be dangerous for her.  We have our house equipped for the elderly ones with ramps in several parts of the house and we also have doggie doors.  She does great.  She runs like a rabbit and does play with our other dogs.  It is amazing how well she does. In spite of all she has gone thru,  she is the sweetest dog I have ever known.
