Yesterday afternoon the DH and I drove to a town an hour away and pulled a baby basset from their animal control facility. His name is Shermy. We did this on behalf of Iowa Basset Rescue since we live so close to this place. We also took his kennelmate who is not a basset. Probably is a shepard mix of some kind. We are calling him Gruff because his has a gruff little growl. He really likes the DH. So much so that in the Walmart parking lot he pooped all over his shoes, slacks, his own leash and anywhere else he could get it. We had to go straight from work to get to this place before it closed and didn't have anything with us to corral them, hence the trip to Wally World.

They have been the best puppies. They slept all the way home and like being together. They are in the crate together now and are cuddled up to each other. Puppies are a lot of work. And they Chew, Chew, Chew. Shelby doesn't mind them. Maggie likes them and went outside with them to have a peeing contest. Shermy tried to nurse from Marley last night. She was not amused. Ninja has not gotten close enough to show her appreciation. We have her on a leash so we can control her. They seem to want to be closer to her than any of the others.

Shermy is a lemon and white basset mixed with something else. He is really long, rather tall and has ears too short to be a true basset but he is very cute. Someone had him chained up and the chain grew into his neck. He has a sore place so cannot wear a collar. He has a new harness and doesn't seem to mind. Gruff has a new collar and is rather afraid of things around him. They played with lots of the girls' toys this morning. According to Shermy, all toys belong to him. We fed them in the laundry room so no big girls could share or supervise their breakfast. They ate well.

We don't have a good set up for mixing puppies and the other dogs. Ninja is a worry so they will never be loose all at the same time. Hopefully, the boys will be going to Iowa this weekend. The girls would gladly mail them sooner if they could get to the post office. Ninja is sticking to me like glue making sure I don't spend too much time with the interlopers. They are cute but puppies are a lot of work.

We hope our week or so of puppy sitting goes well. And that a truce can be worked out.
