[Dailydrool] Nick and Nora at Rainbow Bridge

It doesn't seem possible that Nick left for the Rainbow Bridge a year ago today (3/9). Sadly (I just couldn't seem to write this before) five weeks ago my sweet Nora went to join her brother. Now they will be together to celebrate their 14th birthday next month.

It has been a long year for Nora and me, yet not long enough. Although she remained in pretty good health despite a ruptured cruciate ligament, the canine dementia seemed to be taking over and her spells of pacing, panting and agitation seemed never ending. Being blind added to her confusion. We tried to ease her anxiety with a mild tranquilizer, but it just wasn't working. She deserved more than life like this. Perhaps Nick had woofed to her. I had to let her go.

Both Nick and Nora (littermates) had glaucoma and about two-thirds of their lives had been spent without sight. They were such patient, accepting, gentle beings, whose tails never stopped wagging. I miss them more than I ever thought possible, but I know they are running free and happy, now enjoying that part of life that passed them by.
